  1. ©℗ Capitol Records, Inc. "Ain't It Funky Now" recorded on January 30, at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, NJ. Originally issued on GREEN IS BEAUTIFUL "Cantaloupe Woman" recorded on May 21, at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, NJ/5(21).
  2. Blue Breakbeats is an essential collection of six of the funkiest breakbeat heavy songs in Grant Green's deep Blue Note catalog. Prolifically sampled by beat thirsty hip-hop producers and stylistically influential in separating Green from Wes Montgomery's ever-looming shadow, these songs were compiled from Green Is Beautiful, Visions, Alive!, Carryin' On, and The Final Come Down by DJ Smash.6/
  3. Label: Blue Note - CDP 4 2 1 • Series: Blue Breakbeats • Format: CD Compilation • Country: US • Genre: Jazz • Style: Fusion, Jazz-Funk/5(4).
  4. This is a great sampling of Grant Green's funky jazz cd's. You can get it for a lot less than the three new "Original Jam Master" cd's, and I'd recommend it over any one of them. The song choice is excellent, and there are a couple songs from cd's that are out of print/5(7).
  5. What's here is the trademark grant green non chord playing and improvisationational style laced with funky beats. The gems of this collection is the incredibly fonkay james brown cover ain't it funky now and the staple of blue note breakbeats sookie sookie/5(2).
  6. Drawing from a musical well that included the soul of James Brown, the slink of Sly Stone and the blues of St. Louis, Grant Green came back to Blue Note in with a funky vengeance. Tracks on this Blue Break Beats CD, compiled by NYC DJ Smash Hunter, include "Ain't It Funky Now" and "Sookie Sookie" (which also helped launch Us3)/5(3).
  7. Guitar – Grant Green Vibraphone [Vibes] – Billy Wooten 3 The Windjammer Bongos – Richard Landrum Congas – Candido Cameron Drums – Idris Muhammad Electric Bass – Jimmy Lewis Guitar – Grant Green Organ – Earl Neal Creque Tenor Saxophone – Claude Bartee Trumpet – Blue Mitchell 4 Sookie Sookie Congas – Joseph Armstrong.
  8. Sep 30,  · Alive! is the hardest funk LP Grant Green recorded during the later phase of his career, capturing a storming gig at Newark's Cliché Lounge. The sweaty club atmosphere adds something to the music that's difficult to pin down, yet unmistakably present - a certain organic quality that isn't as noticeable on Green's studio albums of the time.
